G’day you love­ly lis­ten­ers. I’ve been get­ting some requests from lis­ten­ers for Sher­lock Holmes OTR’s recent­ly. And this par­tic­u­lar OTR, launched in 1939 to 1940 starred Basil Rath­bone as Sher­lock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr Wat­son.

Basil Rath­bone, besides hav­ing a deli­cious first name and an ass kick­ing last name, was made most famous by his role as Sher­lock Holmes – he was icon­ic as this char­ac­ter, bring­ing to life what every read­er had in mind when they thought of Sher­lock – regal, per­haps a lit­tle arro­gant, and all around intel­lec­tu­al laser point­er for solv­ing mystery’s.

And his part­ner in crime – solv­ing, Nigel Bruce as Dr Wat­son, brought in a swag­ger, a cool­ness, mixed with a pinch of silli­ness, buf­foon­ery, and rather charm­ing atti­tude towards Sher­locks endeav­ours. Rath­bone spoke fond­ly of Bruce, say­ing,” [Bruce had an] avun­cu­lar pres­ence, pro­vid­ing the per­fect coun­ter­bal­ance to Rath­bone’s briskly omni­scient sleuth”, and as the show end­ed would go on to say “ “after Bruce, it would be a near-unthink­able heresy to show Holmes with­out him”.

Folks I hope you enjoy today’s episode, there are a cou­ple of blips, but I’ve hand-craft­ed this par­tic­u­lar episode to launch the Sher­lock Holmes OTR Remas­tered series on it’s best foot, and I hope you love it. Enjoy.
