526: Return of the Mob | This is your FBI [Remas­tered] Crime dun’t pay mates!

Wel­come, you love­ly lis­ten­ers. Today I have for you’re a heav­i­ly remas­tered episode from This is your FBI titled Return of the Mob. This par­tic­u­lar episode was a doozy. I had to real­ly apply some key spec­tral and voice noise reduc­tion tools on this one. Let me show you how it sound­ed with­out the audio – as an exam­ple, now lis­ten to after it’s mas­tered. One of the tough­est aspects was get­ting rid of these weird sta­t­ic sounds that appeared in ran­dom parts of the episode, main­ly though in the mid­dle.

Take a lis­ten to it with­out the remas­ter­ing: and now with it….it’s nuts. But it took a lot of time – the main rea­son why only one episode today. But I want­ed to real­ly push the lim­its here on what can be done to the audio. That and lift­ing the clar­i­ty of the audio a lit­tle so as prop­er­ly sound out as much of the words as pos­si­ble. Either way, def­i­nite­ly a chal­lenge, and a great one. I think all in all I applied six heavy fil­ters to strip that back – it’s kind of like audio archae­ol­o­gy, a bit at a time I peal away those audio lev­els till I’ve got exact­ly what I’m look­ing for.
